If you haven’t ride the Canela Cable Car yet, take the opportunity to do it during your next visit! The winter in the mountains is a a great time, with some sunny and cold days! It’s a delightful ride you cannot miss.

The main reason for you to take the ride in the Canela Cable Car is because it gives the visitors the best possible view of the Caracol Falls, one of the most beautiful places to visit at the mountains in Rio Grande do Sul!

Plus, it’s great for those who do not want to walk too much. It is also perfect for people with mobility difficulties, those with babies or with high heels …

The Canela Cable Car is the main attraction of the Parques da Serra park, which comprises 10.000 m2, but it is not the only one!

The park is located 750 m above sea level, on the edge of a escarpment that borders the Valley of Lageana. It is in this valley that flows the Caracol Stream, that divides the cities of Canela and Gramado.

We stayed 1 and 1/2 h in the park and could see everything in a moderate pace.

1)CENTRAL STATION OF CANELA CABLE CAR

The Central Station is where everybody starts and ends the tour. That’s where people get on and off in the cable cars. We stayed in the queue, super well organized, for 15 min.

It is in the Central Station of the Canela Cable Car that you will find some snack bars and small (and nice) shops. We specially liked the one that sells sheep’s furs and the one that sells natural leather boots lined with sheep’s fur, both for a very good price! There are also shops of chocolates and souvenirs.

I almost forgot to tell you that here is where you will find the first lookout point overlooking the Caracol Falls!

It is boarding time! Canela cable car goes straight to the upper view point, no choices here!

HIKING THROUGH THE NATURAL FOREST WITH NATIVE TREES (ARAUCÁRIAS):

On the top, besides the beautiful view, you will find a short hiking trail, flat, paved, only 230m long. It is a delightful walk, through the middle of the native forest. The trees are identified with signs. The araucarias are beautiful. They also have signs explaining facts about the animals of the region. If you are lucky like us, you will hear the howling of the howler monkeys. They were very excited, screaming a lot when we visited. Amazing!

TALKING SCULPTURES:

It is very cool! In a room decorated with plants, you will find many wood sculptures of animals, which were carved by the artist Masaharu Hata (1938-2010).

You can interact with the sculptures. Don’t be shy! Take the piece of wood that is with each sculpture and make the movements indicated. Incredibly, you will hear the sound of animals! Did not work? Do it slower or faster! The pace changes everything! I loved the frogs! Only the wood ones, of course!

You’ll find sculptures of pigs, frogs, alligators, owls, lions, even dolphins and whales! Play with all!

3)FALLS STATION OF CANELA CABLE CAR

It’s the one we liked the most. It is the closest to the Caracol Falls and has the third viewpoint of your visit. There are photographers taking pictures of the visitors. We could not resist and bought some of our family (you will find one of them in the end of the post)! Perfect souvenir from a cool morning!

5)CANELA CABLE CAR – BASIC RULES

For your information: It is forbidden to embark with drinks, with bulky objects, without shirt and with animals (except guide dogs).

The ticket is individual and entitles you to a single ascent (one way) and another descent (return). The cabin is not just yours! The maximum occupation is of 08 people by cable car at a time!

If the weather gets bad, the tours can be suspended and only return when the park administration finds it is safe again… Good luck!
