Annually visited by almost 1 million people, Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden spreads itself in 66 acres! It offers 04 different displays during the year, according to the season. You will find tulips, azaleas or even 90.000 pumpkins during Autumn!

The Dallas Arboretum is very different from Brazilian Arboreta and Botanical Gardens. The amount of flowers and plants is huge and the magnificent flowerbeds are densely grouped.

It’s worth saying that the Dallas Arboretum is wheelchair and stroller accessible.

There are lots of amazing attractions in Texas. We had lived at Austin, the capital, for 02 years. Believe us when we say that you will love visiting Texas.

Some examples of places we love and we always return when we have the opportunity are : Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, that is our topic today, Schlitterbahn (the biggest american waterpark, it uses water from a nearby river in the pools and slides), Wild Seed Farm in Fredericksburg ( biggest wild seed farm in USA, located in a German city), Sea World in San Antonio, NASA in Houston and Moody Gardens in Galveston. 

These places, together with others, have the potential to make your vacations unforgettable! And we will talk about each one of them in another opportunity. Be sure, Texas is great for all ages and is especially perfect for kids.

Reserve at least 03 hours to spend at Dallas Arboretum, in case you don’t have  a lot of time. If there is the possibility, reserve 01 whole day, because you can have a picnic, watch a show, go to the Children’s Adventure Park, see all the sculptures, make a guided tour, buy a souvenir and much more! And I didn’t talk yet about the flowerbeds and water fountains, that are marvellous!

WHERE TO EAT AT DALLAS ARBORETUM AND BOTANICAL GARDEN

Snack Bar at Hunt Paseo de Flores -Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

If you can, take everything you need for a delicious picnic on the lawn of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden! That’s the way lots of visitors spend the day: Calmly enjoying everything it offers. Yes! You can take a picnic tablecloth or beach towel to lay on the ground beside an amazing flowerbed! That’s what we did all the times we went there!

But if you prefer, there are other options: one coffee shop at the Children’s Adventure Garden, the elegant restaurant De Golyer, the tea house Seated Tea and the restaurant Lula Mae Slaughter, where you can buy a soup, a sandwich or salad to eat at the terrace or take to your picnic. And there are other kiosks that sell ice cream, soft drinks or coffee around the park. Don’t you worry: All you need can be provided!

The souvenir store is located at the entrance of Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. At the first time, we went at the end of the day and the store was closing. That was not a good idea, because there were so many beautiful  things to choose. With the pressure of time it got more difficult. We bought a metal sculpture that swirls with the wind. It’s at our house in Canela. Everyone loves it and wants to buy one like that. We always say: Go to Dallas!

We learned that the souvenir store is a part of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden and you should visit it as soon as you arrive. At the last time, we bought a small wind chimney with crystals. Don’t you worry. They make very good packages for you to take at the airplane.

You can find tablecloths, toys, playing cards, post cards, kitchen towels and ornaments for terraces, balconies and gardens. Everything of good taste. When Luiza was a baby, she had a ladybug towel that she and everybody loved. It was bought at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Beautiful!

Johnson Color Garden – Dallas Arboretum

That’s the place we had begun our visits.

The lawn is huge and the flowerbeds disposition makes this one of the most desired places to have a picnic and to take pictures. It’s the place we chose to have our pic-nic the last time. 

In this part of the Dallas Arboretum, there are more than 2000 different azaleas! Before we had gone the first time, we didn’t know there were so many!

In March and April, the flowerbeds are full of azaleas, delphiniums, forsythias and tulips, the ones we love the most!

In summer, the highlights are the varieties of cana, coleus and caladiums. The 2 last ones are ornamental plants with colorful leaves in tones of yellow, purple, pink, red and green.

Fall and winter are the seasons of pansies, chrysanthemum and other varieties that can handle cold weather.

Here you can still find a mini garden called Palmer Fern Dell. It has oaks, maple trees, rhododendrons, camellias and around 90 species of ferns. There is a water and steam system that imitates the natural conditions that these plants love.

A WOMAN’S GARDEN

A Woman’s Garden – Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

Many brides and girls celebrating quinceañeras come here to have their pictures taken. In this garden, there is a series of artificial ponds that flow one into the other. There still is an infinity pool  that seems to blend with the lake. We love the sculptures that are from the Dallas Museum of Art. 

TIP: ALWAYS TAKE A COAT WITH YOU, BECAUSE IT’S REALLY WINDY THERE! 

HUNT PASEO DE FLORES

Hunt Paseo de Flores – Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

The Hunt Paseo de Flores is a wide walkway shadowed by japanese cherry trees, walnut trees and huge mexican plum trees. You can still find thousands of tulips, sages, iris flowers, chrysanthemums and others.

The picture above was taken in a lateral portion of The Paseo, where the flowers are displayed side by side, with basic information about them. Paradise for flower lovers.

TIP : IF YOU HAVE KIDS WITH YOU, TAKE THEM TO THE TOADS FOUNTAIN!

Don’t miss the Toads Corners. It’s a group of toads sculptures that throw water in the middle of a small patio. Children love to have fun in the water in summer time!

LAY ORNAMENTAL GARDEN

Lay Ornamental Garden – Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

The highlight of this area of the Dallas Arboretum is a beautiful pergola. What will call your attention is a water fixture, like a drape and a pond in multiple levels, with fish and aquatic plants. You will find bronze sculptures of wild animals and plants with white and golden flowers. It’s a popular place for weddings.

RORY MEYERS CHILDREN’S ADVENTURE GARDEN

This is a space designed to connect children and nature. It was opened a few months ago and that’s why we haven’t been there. Luiza is too big for it now. I know that in weekdays, some parts of this special garden are closed for normal visitors because they are reserved for schools.

-Closed: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s .
