The magnificents Konigssee Lake and Obersee Lake Germany, both emerald green, are fjords located between mountains up to 2000m. A wonderful option to visit for anyone who is on the German border with Austria. For us, they are the most beautiful lakes in Germany.

Located in the small village of Schönau am Königssee, next to Berchtesgaden, these lakes of unique beauty are a must-see! If you are in HALLSTATT, which is about 75km away, you can spend the day at the lakes, as we did last time. Also, for those who are in SALZBURG, which is 30km away, it is very worth visiting them.

It is good to know that the only way to get to Obersee Lake Germany is by taking the boat trip from Konigssee Lake Germany. That is why I often mention the 2 together!

1) WHERE TO STAY – KONIGSSEE LAKE AND OBERSEE LAKE GERMANY

The lodging in this region is very important to facilitate the visit to Konigssee Lake and Obersee Lake Germany. The first time we visited the region, we stayed at the HOTEL-GASTHOF GEBIRGHÄUSL. That’s because we thought it would be easy to get some room near the lake in Schönau, but it was a mistake. We searched up and down in the region and all hotels were crowded. The rare rooms available were extremely expensive.

In the end, we loved the place we found, not that close to the lakes. The breakfast was wonderful. We also had dinner there, on the terrace. Delicious. We stayed in 2 different rooms, because the first one was too small for 3 people and had no view. We exchanged for a larger room, with a balcony and a beautiful view.

During the Autumn, the orange tones of the forest that surrounds it will be magnificent.

Winter is for those who love cold weather! The landscape will be completely white, with everything covered with snow.

We already went twice: in July and August. Simply wonderful the both visits!

Besides of that, it is surrounded by mountains so steep that it is not possible to plant or raise animals.

Do not hesitate! Buy the round trip ticket to Salet so that you will be able to visit he Obersee Lake. This is just the most beautiful part!

Another tip: Take the boat in the morning, as soon as possible, because without wind, the waters bare calmer, the reflection of the mountains is more beautiful and the ride is more pleasant. Besides, time changes with incredible speed. For this reason also, go straight to Salet and just stop at St. Bartholomã on the way back.

Another point to be taken into consideration is that in the high season, from July to September, long lines are very normal, specially on beautiful days. So we recommend that you start your boat ride before 10h30min.

In case of thunderstorms, very windy or hazy day, boat trips on Lake Konigssee Germany can be canceled without prior notice.

7) KONIGSSEE SEELANDE – THE LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE – KONIGSSEE LAKE AND OBERSEE LAKE GERMANY

It is very easy to visit Konigssee Lake and Obersee Lake Germany. It is at the water’s edge that you will find everything: parking, public restrooms, bars, shops, restaurants and even the cable car to the Jenner mountain, at 1874m high. We didn’t went up, but everybody says that the view is great.

Instead, we chose to visit Kehlstein House, known as Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest. It’s very close.

Also in Berchtesgaden, you can find the underground salt mine wih a lake inside it, where you take a short boat trip. Inside the mountain! We loved it!

You can buy the tickets for the boat ride on Lake Konigssee Germany at a kiosk by the pier. Do not forget to pick up the tourist folder at the booth!

The local bars are a great option for a beer after the tour. The outdoor tables are perfect for lounging and relaxing watching the hustle and bustle of tourists.

8) THE SIGHTSEEING OF THE BOAT TOUR – KONIGSSEE LAKE AND OBERSEE LAKE GERMANY

Just at the beginning of the boat trip, on the left side, there is a place called Kessel. Much sought after by painters, it offers a wonderful view that extends to St. Bartholomä. The boat only stops in Kessel if requested. This usually occurs when hikers want to climb the mountain up to the Gotzenalm.

You will also see on the left side of the lake the Königsbach Waterfall, 1600m high and closer to Salet, the Schreinbach Waterfall.

The famous echo wall is a super attraction! Maybe even the most famous! We loved it! In the old days, the boat’s conductor fired a black powder mortar and the echo could be heard up to 7 times. Nowadays, they play a melody on a trumpet and the echo is heard 1 or 2 times depending on the weather conditions. It’s perfect!

9) THE SALET STOP – KONIGSSEE LAKE AND OBERSEE LAKE GERMANY

The final stop of the boat tour of Konigssee Lake and Obersee Lake Germany is Salet. Over there, next to the pier, you will find a public bathroom and a small restaurant.

The hike to Oberssee Lake is very easy, flat and takes about 15 minutes.

10) OBERSEE LAKE – KONIGSSEE LAKE AND OBERSEE LAKE GERMANY

Be prepared to be surprised with what you will see. To feel in peace, amazed, blessed to be in such a spectacular place. The nature here is magnificent.

After reaching the Obersee Lake, take your time looking at everything, sit on the pier, on the rocks or on one of the available benches and enjoy the view, which is unique. Put your feet in the icy water and watch the ducklings swimming. You will love this place. For my mother, Luiza, Mello and me, it is the most beautiful lake in Germany.

With my mother and Luiza, we walked only until the first point we could be at Lake Obersee.

Fischunkelalm Hike – Konigssee Lake and Obersee Lake Germany

In the second visit, with my husband, we made the trail to the Fischunkelalm on the other side of the lake. It’s not easy. We do not recommend for people with limited mobility or small children. There are narrow, slippery gullies, climbings and steep descents.

However, the different angles of the mountains, the sky and the trees reflected in the emerald green water make everything easier during the walk.

And across the lake, you will be rewarded with even more spectacular views!!

In the Fischunkelalm there is a beach where you can bathe if you like cold water and a bar with few options. Everyone there seems to eat cucumber sandwich and drink beer.

The return is by the same path, dividing the narrow way with people coming in the other way.

11) ST. BARTHOLOMÃ STOP – KONIGSSEE LAKE AND OBERSEE LAKE GERMANY

At St. Bartholomã stop you will find a restaurant, restrooms and a small children’s playground.

Actually, Luiza was a child and loved the whole day. The adventures were many: she loved the boat tour, climbed on rocks, played in the water and in the small playground. It was a delightful day.
